The Story:
Discussing Chapter 22

by Living Springs Community Church on May 8, 2016

“The Story” is an opportunity to experience the Bible in its chronological order. The Living Springs family is reading The Story together during the week, and our Sunday messages will help us process and apply what we’ve been reading. If you are in a group or family that is studying The Story together, you can use the questions below to spark discussion.

Chapter 22: The Birth of the King

Breaking the ice

What’s your favorite part of the Christmas story?

Digging in

God’s Upper Story intersects with the Lower Story at the birth of Jesus Christ. After 400 years of silence, God spoke, and the Word became flesh.

  1. How does John 1 (p. 309) help clarify the relationship between God and Jesus?
  2. What did Jesus’ mother Mary know about her child even before she conceived? (p. 310)
  3. In response to her situation, Mary offered a song of praise (p. 310–311). Compare Mary’s song to the song Hannah sang in 1 Samuel 2. How are the songs similar? Did Mary see herself as part of God’s Lower Story, Upper Story, or both?
  4. Herod was not the fist evil ruler to commit infanticide against Hebrew babies. What other examples can you recall? What does this teach you about God’s Upper Story and plan of redemption?

Spend some time praying for families this week—for healed relationships, for wise decisions, for peace and joy.
