“The Story” is an opportunity to experience the Bible in its chronological order. The Living Springs family is reading The Story together during the week, and our Sunday messages will help us process and apply what we’ve been reading. If you are in a group or family that is studying The Story together, you can use the questions below to spark discussion.

Chapter 18: Daniel in Exile

Based on Daniel 1, 2, and 6; Jeremiah 29, 30, 31

  • Daniel exiled to Babylon
  • Daniel’s ministry
  • Josiah’s reign
  • Nebuchadnezzar’s reign
  • Daniel and the lions’ den
  • Fall of Babylon

Breaking the ice

What is one of the strangest dreams you can recall?

Digging in

Daniel’s life is testimony to the different kinds of results we can expect when we follow God’s rules in a society that has different values. In some cases, we may be noticed and rewarded—as Daniel and his friends were when they respectfully declined the Babylonian diet. In other cases, we may be noticed and reviled—as Daniel’s friends were when they refused to bow to the Babylonian king. Daniel’s story reminds us that integrity is not about the earthly honors we might receive. It’s about pleasing our heavenly King no matter what.

Reflecting

  1. Think back to God’s covenant with Abraham (p. 13). How was that promise fulfilled through Daniel and his three friends?
  2. What are some of the ways God revealed His supernatural power in this chapter? What message did God’s actions send to the Jewish exiles? What message did God’s actions send to the gentile leaders?
  3. When Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego refused to bow to the golden idol, they didn’t know if God would save them or not. How confidently do you stand up for God when you don’t know what the results will be?

Praying

Pray for faithfulness and courage as you walk through the world this week.

For next week…
