The Story:
Week of October 25, 2015

by Living Springs Community Church on October 25, 2015

“The Story” is an opportunity to experience the Bible in its chronological order. The Living Springs family is reading The Story together during the week, and our Sunday messages will help us process and apply what we’ve been reading. If you are in a group or family that is studying The Story together, you can use the questions below to spark discussion.

Breaking the ice

Who in your life has been influential on your spiritual journey?

Digging in

The Bible contains an Upper Story and a Lower Story. The Upper Story tells the big picture, the grand narrative unfolding throughout history, the story of God seeking relationship with humanity. The Lower Story contains the details of particular people, the episodes we’ve become familiar with: Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, the flood, etc. The Upper Story is a framework that all of the Lower Stories fit into.

Our own stories today also fit into the framework of the Upper Story. That Upper Story can give meaning to the daily struggles we face, even when we don’t understand what the purpose might be.

As we journey together through The Story, we will take note of the events and characters in the Lower Story as well as the eternal, overarching purpose of God in the Upper Story.

  1. Has your experience with the Bible been fulfilling or frustrating? Why?
  2. Do you have a favorite Bible story or Bible character? What makes this your favorite?
  3. What kinds of things shake your confidence in the Bible?
  4. What do you hope to get out of The Story as we journey through it together?

Spend a few minutes expressing your hopes and doubts in a conversation with God.
