Welcome to the Party
Verse 14: Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.
Why was the Bronze Altar the first thing you’d encounter entering the tabernacle complex? Imagine Bill Gates stopping by your house while you were doing the gardening and inviting you to attend one of those formal several-thousand-dollars-a-plate fundraising dinners that starts in an hour. Your mind would probably fly off in a million different directions: How does Gates know me? I would love to attend, but I wouldn’t know anybody there and no one would know me. I can’t afford the price. I’m dirty. I don’t have the right clothes. I need some time to get myself together.
Christ invites you to a banquet with God. He has always known you. You are worthy and welcome to attend not because of your merit, but because you are with Christ. He has fully paid the price for your entry—not just for this party, but for eternity. From this point on, you can come to the banquet whenever you please. Christ makes sure that you are cleansed and clothed properly. He does all of this for you so that you are free to enjoy fellowship with God without self-conscious fear, guilt, or shame.
What has God cleansed you from? What are some of the “new clothes” you have put on now?
Father, I know that on my own I am not worthy to come into your presence, but I thank you so much for making a way, through Christ, that I can have a relationship with you. Help me to fully enjoy this gift without trying to earn or justify it.
